Ayati has partnered with Milaan’s Making Schools Friendly and Girl Icon programs over the past 2 years. These programs involve KAP studies (which assess Knowledge, Aptitude and Practices) and subsequent workshops. These workshops are taking place in Sittapur, Uttar Pradesh, where the female literacy rate is only 44%. To date, 20 schools have participated in the programs, impacting 1000 students. The programs have been implemented by 16 fellows and 3 coordinators. Twenty communities corresponding to the schools have also been reached, with another 1000 girls being educated through the Bhejhijhak Bate program, which helps to remove the hesitation in talking about menstruation and demystifies the myths. These workshops are conducted by 2 trainers in each community and last 6 hours. Lastly, 25 Girl Icons have reached 1200 of their peers through social action projects. The Girl Icon program is a 2 year leadership development program for adolescent girls (12-18 years of age) who wish to make a change in their communities. Our goals are to expand the programs to 34 more schools and communities, and to train and implement 75 more Girl Icons to further the impact. We project for this to happen over the course of the next 2 years.
