OUR INITIATIVES

The Menstrual Health Management Program

An initiative that has reached nearly 150,000 girls/boys from 2015-2018 and helped to create a safer and more functional environment for female students.  Ayati works with Milaan on the research and the development of educational materials to be presented in the schools and communities towards the goal of empowering these young girls of adolescent school age.

Girl Icon Program

Currently, the Girl Icon program will select 5000 young women to become social leaders in their communities in 2022 - 2025. Each Girl Icon will lead a peer group of 20 other adolescent girls, and act as role models and change agents. This structured and intensive leadership program equips the Girl Icons with the requisite knowledge, skills, and networks for being a leader to challenge the status quo, break barriers and create a more equitable society.

Through the peer group program, we will directly empower 100,000 adolescent girls between 12 and 18 years of age, both in and out of school, from low-income families (less than $5 USD/day of household income) living across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka.  Workshops cover comprehensive life-skills education including topics such as adolescent health, menstrual hygiene, nutrition, and sanitation, among others, over the course of 18 months. We plan to scale up the program in the order of multiples through our virtual reach.

The Girl Icons and their peer groups will also develop social action projects to further impact various stakeholders in their communities such as families, neighbors, community leaders, teachers, local government bodies, health workers, and others in their local communities. The impact is not just to the communities, but to the local economy and eventually the global economy.

The comprehensive Girl Icon program costs only $45 per girl directly impacted of which Ayati has committed to fund 100% of the adolescent health and menstrual hygiene portion of the program, or 25% of the overall leadership program or just $12 per girl!

Your donation helps to fund this comprehensive program that provides girls a forum to discuss/learn about optimal menstrual hygiene and helps to settle fears about what it is and how to deal with it.  The access to both education and resources helps to demystify feminine health and, ultimately, empowers young girls to stay in school. IT GIVES THESE GIRLS A CHANCE!
